Community Eye Health

The ocular health project focuses on providing Optomotological services to people with limited financial resources throughout the state of Oaxaca.

The objective is to contribute to the reduction of preventable blindness.

La Clinica del Pueblo, together with Cristoffel Blind Mission International, the World Health Organization and other non-governmental organizations, participate in an international program called VISION 20/20 "The Right to Sight" whose aim is to eradicate preventable blindness.

Education, preventable screenings as well as curative operations are all part of the clinics work in this project.

  1. Prevention.

    Detection Campaigns

    Through vision screenings and evaluations for cataracts and other vision related problems, detection campaigns are conducted around the state of Oaxaca.

    Within the facilities of La Clinica del Pueblo, at no charge, periodical detection campaigns are conducted for glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Our objective is to detect the illnesses while there is still opportunity to prevent the loss of sight, as well as to sensitize the population at large about eye care.
Ophthalmical Attention

  1. Cures.

    There are regular consults by the ophthalmological staff, who also can operate on various conditions such as, cataracts, glaucoma, tear duct obstruction, pterigium.

  2. Education.

    La Clinica del Pueblo offers trainings to community health workers, and auxiliary health staff to provide primary attention in surrounding neighborhoods, and towns and villages in Oaxaca.
